Bord Gáis Networks, a division of Bord Gáis, develops, operates and maintains the natural gas pipeline network in the Republic of Ireland on behalf of Gaslink, the system operator. Bord Gáis Networks delivers natural gas through the pipeline network on behalf of all gas shippers and suppliers, and is also responsible for connecting all natural gas customers to the network.Bord Gáis Networks has developed a transmission (high-pressure) pipeline network of over 2,300km and a distribution (low/medium pressure) pipeline network of over 10,500km. The transmission system is linked to the UK and international gas markets through two sub-sea
interconnectors. There are over 630,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers connected to the gas network in Ireland with natural gas currently available in over 146 population centres across 19 counties throughout the country.
Bord Gáis Networks operates in strict compliance with the highest Irish and international quality and safety procedures. Safety continues to be of paramount importance and considerable resources have been made available to ensure that Bord Gáis Networks operations, procedures and processes benchmark favourably with best international utility safety and quality standards.
The organisation is currently undergoing a ‘Networks Transformation Programme’ (NTP) which is a strategic programme of work looking at enhancing and optimising Bord Gáis Networks’ business processes and IT systems. The objective of the programme is to improve efficiency and customer services in order to ensure that Bord Gáis Networks enhances its profile as a best in class networks utility provider.
Bord Gáis, of which Bord Gáis Networks is a division, was founded in 1976 to develop the natural gas industry in Ireland following the discovery of natural gas off the south coast of Ireland. It is a commercial state body operating in the energy sector and is majority owned by the Irish government. The company employs about 900 staff and is headquartered in Cork, Ireland.
